Conference concerning global economic dilemmas and environmental issues in the business world

Martti Ahtisaari Institute and Oulu Business School arranged together with The Academy of World Business, Marketing and Management Development (AWBMAMD) a conference in Oulu in July 12-14.

The theme for the conference was Managing and Marketing Organizations in an Era of Global Economic Uncertainty and Environmental Complexity.

Pertti Paakkolanvaara ,M.Sc.(Techn.) Lecturer, Head of Marketing Department, opened the conference with a welcome speech. One hundred researchers from thirty different countries arrived in Oulu to speak about the issues concerning this global topic. These presentations covered this theme from fields of; marketing, management, finance, human resource management, economics and entrepreneurship among others.

The last conference day ended with a dinner hosted by Martti Ahtisaari Institute and Oulu Business School. The Academy of World Business, Marketing and Management Development director Professor Gabriel Ogunmokun gave credit to some researcher´s achievements who spoke in the conference. Also Oulu Business School and Martti Ahtisaari Institute received trophies for their excellent co-operation with the academy.

Experts of Russian Business got together at the University of Oulu 19.5.

 The most important success factors for a foreign business in the Russian market are the respect for the business partner and knowhow of the Russian culture and language.

The opportunities, challenges and future possibilities of doing business in the Russian market where analysed and discussed in the Pohjois-Suomen yritykset Venäjän markkinoilla Seminar co-organised by the Martti Athisaari Institute, Suomen ja Venäjän välinen tiede- ja teknologiakomissio and Oulu Chamber of Commerce at Linnanmaa campus on Wednesday 19.5.

The seminar brought together a group of experts from companies, academia and public sector. Russian business, its opportunities and bottlenecks awakened vivid discussion both during the seminar and the after-seminar networking coffee.

2010 -luvun globaalit ongelmat ja haasteet
Seminar 8.2.2010

Nobel Peace Prize winner 2008 President Martti Ahtisaari visited The University of Oulu on Monday February 8th 2010 in the seminar organised by the Martti Ahtisaari Institute of Global Business and Economics.

In his seminar speech, President Ahtisaari focused on 2010´s global problems and challenges taking a deep look especially at the current state, development and future prospects of the global economy. The extremely interesting and topical seminar attracted over 400 participants.
The seminar was targeted, among others, to the representatives of the University of Oulu, City of Oulu, Chamber of Commerce, Oulu University of Applied Sciences and local businesses.

In the seminar, also Dr. Kimmo Alajoutsijärvi, the Dean of Oulu Business School outlined the school's future strategy and development prospects.

In the seminar, also Osuuskauppa Arina´s contribution to the university foundation was received. At the same time, Oulu Business School´s biggest lecture hall TA105 was renamed as Arina-sali. A wish was expressed by Osuuskauppa Arina that the yield of their contribution would be directed to support the activities of the Martti Ahtisaari Institute of Global Business and Economics.

In addition, in the seminar, stipends for excellent study and research performance and efforts in advancing internationalisation were granted by the Martti Ahtisaari Institute of Global Business and Economics.

In order to encourage and award excellence and innovation, Martti Ahtisaari Institute of Global Business and Economics awards stipends for outstanding research and study performance as well as for other valuable achievements for business and the community at large.

Stipends were granted in the '2010-luvun globaalit ongelmat ja haasteet' seminar on February 8th 2010, whose keynote speaker and guest of honour was the Nobel Peace Prize winner 2008 President Martti Ahtisaari.

Doing Business Abroad Seminar 21.1.2010
attracted a full auditorium of
business leaders, academics and students

Doing Business Abroad seminar, organised in cooperation with AIESEC, Martti Ahtisaari Institute of Global Business and Economics, Oulu Business School and TEKES, attracted a full auditorium of over 150 participants on Thursday 21.1.2010. The university filled with an exceptionally international group of business leaders, academics and students. Altogether eleven speakers from eleven different countries shared their knowledge about doing business in their home country. The seminar presentations included practical advice and tips on how to do business for instance in Russia, China, USA, Central-Europe and Africa.

The presentations were organised by the University´s international degree and exchange students, out of whom many have several years of experience on international business. The seminar was opened by our keynote speaker Ms. Lisa Sounio, CEO of Sonay Ltd., the former CEO and co-founder of the travelling social website Dopplr, and star of the Finnish TV show “Leijonankita´, who in her speech challenged the hard-working and honest but often too formal, serious and conventional Finns to be courageous and take risks: “In order to be successful in marketing, you´ll need more than just ´common sense´. In addition to that you´ll need a little bit of craziness and magic, too.´

The seminar was organised on Thursday 21.1.2010 at 14.00 – 17.30 at the University of Oulu, Auditorium TA105.

 

 

ICT for State-building Seminar 4.11.2009

ICT for State-building Seminar was organised 4.11.2009 on Linnamaa campus in cooperation with Martti Ahtisaari Institute of Global Business and Economics and Crisis Management Initiative (www.cmi.fi). The seminar was successful, bringing together participants from several interest groups, including representatives of the local companies, students and faculty of the University of Oulu.

The Lean Startup in Oulu 9.11.2009

The Lean Startup in Oulu, the entrepreneurship event supported by Martti Ahtisaari Institute of Global Business and Economics was organised on November 9th 2009 in cooperation of Oulu Growth Lab and Center for Internet Excellence. The event was visited by serial entrepreneur Eric Ries from Silicon Valley who gave a lecture about entrepreneurship and business building to a full auditorium at Linnanmaa campus. The audience consisted of nearly two hundred researchers, students, entrepreneurs and financiers interested especially in building new business. The event created an exceptionally active and up to date discussion on the challenges and opportunities of contemporary entrepreneurship.
